The Solano women’s basketball team suffered its first loss of the Bay Valley Conference season, ending its season-long three-game win streak when it fell to Contra Costa College on Wednesday 86-80.
Cassandra Jones had another hot shooting night for Solano, finishing with 22 points on 7 of 15 from the 3-point line. Kyara Reed scored 12 points and added seven rebounds and three blocked shots for the Falcons.
Solano and Contra Costa played a back-and-forth game through the entire 40 minutes and the game was as emotional and intense as it ever has been between these two rivals.
Alex Bader put Solano up 71-70 with 6:11 left to go in the game, but a 9-3 run by Contra Costa gave them the lead for good. Solano didn’t go away quietly, however. Cassandra Jones hit a 3-pointer to make the score 79-77, but the Comets were solid from the free throw line down the stretch to maintain the lead and secure the victory.
The Falcons fell to 3-1 in BVC games while CCC improved to 4-0 and remained atop the standings with Laney College.
Also for Solano, Mariel Dinglasan scored 10 points and added five rebounds and two assists while point guard Mae Moore led the way with 10 rebounds. The freshman also had five assists and seven points.
Next up: Solano travels to Oakland on Friday to take on Laney College.
