Spark off the bench lifts SCC to big victory


Aiyana Gilliard scored a season-high 17 points against Mendocino on Thursday.

Aiyana Gilliard provided a big spark off the bench, scoring 17 points to lead Solano to a 75-37 victory over Mendocino in Bay Valley Conference action on Thursday.

Gilliard, a freshman guard, shot 7 of 9 from the field and also finished with five rebounds and two steals.

Solano led from the start of the game and never relinquished its lead. The back-to-back wins to open conference play marked the first win streak for the Falcons this season.

Cassandra Jones continues her run toward breaking the school record for 3-pointers made in a season – she hit five more against Mendocino and finished with 15 points. Christen Voyles added 11 points and nine rebounds while fellow sophomore Miranda Holman had eight points and 10 rebounds.

Sophomore Alex Bader had a well-rounded game – five points, eight rebounds, six assists and two steals.

Solano improved to 2-0 in BVC and 7-11 overall.
