The Solano women’s basketball team kicked off the 2015-16 season at the E.O.S. Tournament at Riverside City College, the first time the Falcons have played in this event in its history. Unfortunately, the trip was short as the team came back early after suffering two defeats.
SCC (0-2) opened with an 80-68 loss to Cerritos College on Friday. The Falcons actually led by two at the half and played solid throughout the game, but fell to a strong Southern California opponent. In the consolation semifinals on Saturday, Solano dropped a heartbreaking 55-51 decision to El Camino. It was the two programs’ first ever meeting. The Falcons struggled a bit against EC, according to Coach Matt Borchert, and didn’t play as sharp offensively as they did against Cerritos.
Christen Voyles, a sophomore guard, scored 13 points, including 3 of 7 from the three-point line, against Cerritos. She added five rebounds. LaNia Adams had nine points and three rebounds off the bench. Alex Bader, also a sophomore, had a solid outing with seven points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Against El Camino, Adams had 16 points and eight rebounds. Cassandra Jones had 11 points and four rebounds.
Next up: Solano travels to Weed to resume its rivalry with College of Siskiyous on Nov. 24.
