Solano finished off its preseason schedule by taking third place in the Mike Gervasoni Memorial Classic at De Anza College in Cupertino.
The Falcons recorded a convincing 84-52 win over San Mateo on Tuesday in the third place game. Nae Rankins and Audrie Jones each scored 15 points for the Falcons. Rankins added seven steals while Jones grabbed six rebounds. Brooke Gibbins scored 12 points off the bench while Alexis Hines chipped in 11 points.
Laura Lawson was named all tournament while averaging 14 points and 14 rebounds per game over the three games.
In the opening game, Solano beat Ohlone 83-66 behind 14 points and 20 rebounds from Laura Lawson. The sophomore forward also had three assists and three steals. Nae Rankins added 13 points, four rebounds and three assists while Audrie Jones had 12 points, all on 3-pointers, to go with four rebounds and two steals.
Alexis Hines had a solid game off the bench with eight points, eight rebounds and six steals.
In the semifinals, Solano faced off against one of the state’s top teams in Chabot, a team it lost to in the semifinals of the Solano Showdown just weeks ago. Though the Falcons played it tough for most of the game, Chabot’s top players were too much to handle and helped the Gladiators pull away for the 83-65 win.
Laura Lawson made her presence felt, however, with another double double – this time 20 points and 17 rebounds. Audrie Jones was the only other player in double figured with 14 points on 4 of 9 from the 3-point line.
