The Solano women’s basketball team played three tough games, but only came away with one win at the Tom Gilcrest Invitational at College of Sequoias last week.
The Falcons opened with a thrilling 86-84 win over Riverside. Solano fell behind 14 at the half, but staged a furious rally in the second half to pull out the victory. Five players scored in double figures for Solano, led by Nikki Andaya’s 17 points. The sophomore point guard added four assists and four rebounds. Laura Lawson commanded the paint, scoring 16 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.
Freshman Alexis Hines came off the bench to score 12 points. She also had four rebounds and four assists. Audrie Jones had 11 points and Nae Rankins added 10.
In the quarterfinals, Solano had the chance to win or tie the game with less than 5 seconds left, but a couple of free throws didn’t fall and the team suffered a heartbreaking 66-65 loss to LA Valley. Justice Robinson scored 20 points and pulled in 7 rebounds in a reserve roll. Nikki Andaya kept up her consistent play with 15 points, four rebounds and two assists. Audrie Jones added 13 points.
Solano was eliminated from the tournament after an 85-72 loss to San Joaquin Delta College on Saturday. The Falcons got balanced scoring, but only one player was in double figures. Laura Lawson scored 17 points and tied her career-high with 21 rebounds.
