Solano went 2-1 in the 20th Annual Solano Showdown over the weekend.
The Solano women’s basketball team bounced back from its first home defeat in almost two calendar years to beat Sacramento City College 69-45 in the third place game of the Solano Showdown on Sunday.

Laura Lawson recorded her fifth double double of the season against Chabot.
Solano fell in the semifinals 92-76 Saturday night to Chabot, despite leading at halftime and making a valiant effort in the first five minutes of the second half to maintain the lead.
Five players scored in double figures for the Falcons, who shot 38 percent from the 3-point line.
Laura Lawson recorded her fifth double double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Nae Rankins continued her strong play in the Showdown with 17 points, 8 rebounds and three assists. Read the rest of this entry »

Nae Rankins drives to the basket in the second half against De Anza on Friday night.
Freshman Nae Rankins scored 11 points and added 10 rebounds, sparking a huge run that allowed the Falcons to secure a 68-65 win over De Anza College in the first round of the Solano Showdown on Friday.
Solano led 36-26 at the half, but the Dons opened the second half on a huge run and eventually took a 44-43 lead with about 11 minutes to go in the game. Solano rallied back and built another double-digit lead but De Anza wasn’t finished, cutting the lead to two with less than a minute to go. Laura Lawson, who finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds, sank one of two free throws to give Solano a three-point advantage with nine seconds remaining. De Anza’s last-second attempt at a 3-pointer was blocked by Nae Rankins and Solano got the rebound as time expired. Read the rest of this entry »

The Solano women’s basketball team played three tough games, but only came away with one win at the Tom Gilcrest Invitational at College of Sequoias last week.
The Falcons opened with a thrilling 86-84 win over Riverside. Solano fell behind 14 at the half, but staged a furious rally in the second half to pull out the victory. Five players scored in double figures for Solano, led by Nikki Andaya’s 17 points. The sophomore point guard added four assists and four rebounds.
