Balanced scoring attack lifts Solano past Merritt

The newly crowned Bay Valley Conference champions tied the school record for consecutive wins and finished off a season sweep of Merritt College with an 81-53 win over the Thunderbirds in Oakland on Friday.

Solano won its 16th straight game, dating back to the consolation championship game of the Mike Gervasoni Memorial Classic in December, tying the school record set by the 1996-97 squad.

Denisha Lundy had her second straight 20-plus point outing, scoring 28 points to lead the Falcons who 22-5 early in the contest and then 47-26 at the half. Lundy added nine rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Solano extended its lead to 68-35 midway through the second half, getting everyone involved in the offense by playing lock-down defense.

Audrey Jones and Necole White each came off the bench to provide valuable minutes. Jones scored 12 points while White had 11 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists.

The Falcons improved to 24-4 overall and 15-0 in BVC games. SCC takes on Contra Costa College next Friday at 5:30 p.m. for Elementary School Appreciation Night. All kids 12 and under will get into the game free of charge. It’s also the last regular season home game and the coaching staff will take the opportunity to honor the five sophomores who have made great contributions to the program.
