The Solano College women’s basketball team saw a 20-point lead quickly disappear, in holding on for a 68-55 Bay Valley Conference win over Napa Valley on Friday.
The Falcons controlled most of the game, building a 27-21 lead at halftime. The team didn’t let up in the second half, using a stifling defense and stellar shooting to put the game out of reach with about 7 minutes to go in the game. But Napa wasn’t ready to concede. The Storm turned up their own defensive pressure, forcing Solano into sloppy turnovers that they were able to capitalize on. Napa cut the lead to nine points with about 3 minutes to go in the game before Solano regrouped and hit free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
The game was a rematch of a double overtime Solano win back in January. Napa tried to make the game just as thrilling this time around.
Taylor Hamilton scored 21 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out seven assists. She also had five steals. Ariel Clay had another well-rounded game for the Falcons with 13 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two steals. Necole White hit 3 treys en route to 11 points. She also had five rebounds.
Solano’s bench was solid in the victory as well, scoring 15 points and grabbing 20 rebounds.
The Falcons take on Mendocino in Ukiah on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
