The Solano Community College women’s basketball team got three solid games under its belt at the Tom Gilcrest Invitational at College of Sequoias in Visalia last weekend, going 1-2.
The Falcons opened with a 71-51 loss to Santa Barbara before bouncing back with a 76-51 win over Sacramento City College. Solano was sent home early from the tournament after suffering a 58-42 defeat at the hands of LA Valley.
The Sequoias tournament is one of the top events in the state, featuring 16 of the best teams in California – 8 from the North and 8 from the South.
Against SBCC, sophomore Cheyenne Shepherd scored 10 points and added seven rebounds and six steals. Freshman point guard Taylor Hamilton had 10 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Ariel Clay, a freshman, scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the loss to LA Valley while Ariella Harper came off the bench to score seven points.
Solano (3-3) returns to action on Friday Dec. 7 in the Solano Showdown when it hosts Chabot College at 8 p.m.
