Dreams came true for three Solano women’s basketball players on Thursday when they signed letters of intent to attend four-year colleges to continue their athletic and academic careers.
In a signing ceremony in the Hall of Fame lobby at Solano, Shannon Rankin, Tara Cooley and Presley Neufeld committed to universities in front of teammates, family and friends.
Shannon, who was an all-Bay Valley Conference selection this year, and Tara, an all-conference selection as a freshman, will suit up for San Francisco State University in the fall. Presley, a strong presence for the Falcons this year on both ends of the floor, will head East to Eastern Nazarene University in Quincy, Mass.
“These ladies are continuing a strong tradition we have here at Solano,” said Coach Matt Borchert. “They have represented this program and this college with class and dignity and we are extremely proud for them.”
Shannon was Solano’s leader in several categories this year. She averaged 13.3 points per game, 7.6 rebounds per game and 2.2 steals per game. She led the team in points, rebounds, field goals made, free throws made and steals. She was also recognized as a BVC all-academic honoree.
Cooley, a guard, averaged 8.9 points per game, 4.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.2 steals. She shot 73 percent from the free throw line.
“Shannon and Tara are not only close friends off the court, but they have a great connection on the court that is going to be beneficial forSan FranciscoState,” said Coach Matt. “We are extremely excited that they will be continuing on. They have been awesome representatives for this program for the last two years.”
Neufeld led the team in 3-pointers made (28) while averaging 7.0 points, 4.4 assists and 2.1 steals per game. The point guard made her presence felt on defense this season.
“Eastern Nazarene is going to be a great fit for Presley,” said Coach Matt. “She had a great time on her visit there recently. She’s going to be able to make an impact for them and contribute.”
