For the second time in two weeks, the Solano College women’s basketball team fell to Laney College in Oakland. This time, the Falcons fell to the Eagles 58-48 in the semifinals of the Bay Valley Conference tournament.
Solano, the four-time defending conference champions and reigning conference tournament champs, were unable to hang with Laney down the stretch. The Falcons were solid in the first half and led 26-24 at the break despite shooting just 36 percent from the field.
The Eagles used their athleticism to pull away in the second half, getting second-half opportunities on offense and forcing the Falcons into 30 turnovers in the game.
Shannon Rankin, playing in her final game in a Solano uniform, led the Falcons with 20 points and 7 rebounds. Presley Neufeld hit three 3-pointers and finished with 12 points, 5 assists and 2 steals. Marissa Dunn had eight points and 13 rebounds.
Solano finishes the season with a 17-12 overall record. The Falcons have recorded seven straight winning seasons and 19 in the program’s history.
