In addition to honoring Solano’s five sophomores in a pregame ceremony, the players and coaches from both teams took part in the Coaches vs. Cancer fundraiser. Head coaches from both programs wore sneakers instead of their regular dress shoes to support the cause.
A silent auction was held throughout the game featuring “My Favorite Things” baskets put together by Solano’s five sophomores. All proceeds from the game benefitted the American Cancer Society.
On the court, Solano controlled the game though the team didn’t shoot well from the floor. The Falcons shot just 30 percent from the field in the first half, taking a 37-18 lead into the halftime locke room.
The Falcons turned up the defensive effort in the second half, creating a lot of offensive opportunities. Solano shot 48 percent from the field in the second half.
“We were a lot more aggressive in the second half,” said Solano coach Matt Borchert. “I was pleased with the way we got after the ball on defense. It allowed us to put the game away.”
Solano improved to 16-10 overall and 8-2 in BVC.
