The Solano women’s basketball team fell in the regular season finale 59-55 to Los Medanos on Friday night.
The Falcons won the first matchup between the two teams early in the season, but the Mustangs bounced back when it counted. LMC won its first Bay Valley Conference Valley Division title with the victory.
Marissa Dunn led Solano in scoring with 16 points and also tallied nine rebounds. Ruby Leon added 15 points while Shannon Rankin had 10 points and nine rebounds.
The Falcons struggled with Los Medanos’ athleticism and allowed the Mustangs too many second chance opportunities.
“We really struggled to keep them off the offensive boards,” said Solano coach Matt Borchert. “They had 16 offensive rebounds and they probably scored every time off that.”
Solano finished the regular season 16-11 and 8-3 in conference. The loss denied the Falcons’ attempt to win a fifth straight BVC title. Solano takes on College of Marin in the first round of the Bay Valley Conference tournament on Tuesday.
