Marissa Dunn recorded her third straight double double to lead the Solano women’s basketball team to a 79-32 win over Napa Valley College on Friday.
Dunn, a freshman center, had 16 points and 13 rebounds. Shannon Rankin led the way with 20 points, seven rebounds, four assists, three blocked shots and five steals. Ruby Leon continued her strong play with a 17-point effort. The sophomore guard added seven rebounds, two assists, three blocked shots and two steals. Ruby has scored in double figures in eight of Solano’s last nine games.
Solano struggled early in the game, committing turnovers and missing easy shots. The Falcons led just 28-15 at half.
The second half was a completely different story as the team came out with a renewed energy. Solano shot 67 percent from the field in the second half, tightened up the defense and looked sharp on offense.
Tara Cooley helped the cause on both ends of the floor, finishing with 10 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and three steals.
“We were much better in the second half,” said Solano coach Matt Borchert. “The first half left me scratching my head a bit, but we got some things worked out at halftime and the team responded.”
Solano (15-10, 7-2) has two games left in the regular season before the Bay Valley Conference tournament. The Falcons host Yuba College on Wednesday before traveling to Pittsburg to take on Los Medanos on Friday. Both games start at 5:30 p.m.
On Wednesday, the coaching staff will recognize the sophomores for Sophomore Night. It’s also Coaches vs. Cancer Night. All the proceeds from the gate will go to benefit the American Cancer Society. The team will also be hosting a silent auction throughout the game. Click here to read more about the auction.
Friday’s game against Los Medanos is a rematch of a game played earlier in the season in which Solano came out on top. The BVC Valley Division title will be on the line when the two teams collide. Come out and show your support!
