The Solano women’s basketball team simply ran out of steam when the Falcons traveled to Oakland to take on the Bay Division’s first-place team, Laney College on Wednesday. The Eagles topped the Falcons 64-48.
In a hard-fought game in front of a raucous crowd, Solano stayed close most of the first half. Laney pulled away and went into halftime with a 34-24 advantage though.
The Falcons came out strong in the second half, cutting the lead to four early. That was as close as they got though.
“Laney is a very athletic team and we just had matchup problems all over the court,” said Solano coach Matt Borchert. “I am very happy with the effort, it was a tough game and our team fought hard. They never gave up.”
Marissa Dunn led the Falcons with 16 points, 12 rebounds, four blocked shots and three steals. Ruby Leon added 11 points and five rebounds while Shannon Rankin had seven points and eight rebounds.
The Falcons take on Napa Valley College on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
