Solano suffered a nightmare outing on Friday the 13th in a 60-53 loss to Mendocino in Ukiah on Friday night.
The Falcons led 4-0 before the Eagles exploded on offense to take a 23-11 lead minutes into the game. It was only the second time Solano fell to Mendocino, the last defeat occurring in 2004.
“We weren’t very good,” said Solano coach Matt Borchert. “We couldn’t make a basket and had a tough time matching up with them on defense.”
Solano led 49-47 with 5:32 to go in the game, but Mendocino capitalized on its offensive possessions to seal the victory. Solano shot 22 percent in the second half and 11 percent from the 3-point line for the game.
Tara Cooley led the Falcons with 17 points and 9 rebounds. Shannon Rankin added 12 points and 14 rebounds while Ruby Leon, the Bay Valley Conference Valley Division’s second-leading scorer, added 11 points, 10 rebounds and two blocked shots.
Marissa Dunn had eight points, nine rebounds, four blocked shots and three steals.
The Falcons grabbed 30 offensive rebounds and blocked a season-high 9 shots.
Solano (11-9, 3-1) hosts the division’s first-place team, Los Medanos, on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
