The Solano Community College Athletic Hall of Fame inducted former women’s basketball point guard Joyce Robinson (Martinez) into its 2011 class on Monday night. Robinson is the 16th former women’s basketball player to be inducted and joins her former coach, Kim Gervasoni (Mitchell) as an honoree.
Robinson was joined by her family and friends at the ceremony which took place at the Hilton Garden Inn in Fairfield. She was inducted by former teammate and best friend Christine Mimms Little.
Robinson was a point guard at Solano from 1993-95 and earned all-conference honors as a sophomore. She continued her academics, earning an athletic scholarship to play basketball at University of South Florida. Robinson recalled suffering myriad injuries during her playing days, often thinking that each game she played was her last.
“But God said ‘I am not done with you yet!'” she said to the packed room.
Robinson thanked her family for sacrificing for her basketball career and supporting her along the way. She fondly remembered them knocking on her dorm room door on graduation day at USF, surprising her.
“I was so happy to come back to California,” she said.
