Jones signs with Nebraska-Kearney

Ivy Jones will play the next two seasons at University of Nebraska-Kearney.

Sophomore point guard Ivy Jones inked her letter of intent earlier this week to attend University of Nebraska-Kearney to continue her athletic and academic careers.

Ivy, the reigning Bay Valley Conference MVP and a first-team all-state pick this past year, was joined by her mom and dad at Solano on Tuesday for the formal announcement in front of her teammates and Solano faculty and staff.

Ivy will suit up this winter for former Solano assistant coach Kevin Chaney, who will enter his second year with the Lopers. UNK is a NCAA Division II institution competing in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Last season, the team went 13-14 overall and 12-10 in RMAC contests.

“We are very excited for Ivy to play for Kevin,” said Coach Matt Borchert. “It’s a great fit and she’s going to do very well there.”

Solano Superintendent/President Dr. Jowell Laguerre attended Ivy's signing ceremony on Tuesday.

Ivy thanked those in attendance at her signing on Tuesday, including Solano Superintendent/President Dr. Jowell Laguerre, who has been a big fan of Ivy’s since seeing her play her freshman year.

“I really appreciate the support you have given me the last two years,” Ivy said. “It means a lot.”

Ivy also thanked her teammates, saying that she couldn’t have won all the awards she received this year without them pushing her in practice every day and working so hard alongside her.

“You guys are my homies,” she said with a chuckle.
