A rough shooting night and too many turnovers doomed the Solano Community College women’s basketball team in a 72-69 loss to Los Medanos in the final regular season home game for the Falcons.
Solano, the four-time defending BVC champions, still have the top seed entering the conference tournament which starts next week. The Falcons (15-10, 10-1) will take on the winner of Tuesday’s Contra Costa-College of Marin game at 6 p.m. on Wednesday in Fairfield.
The Falcons forced overtime when freshman Tara Cooley hit a free throw with 1.9 seconds left in regulation. The two teams played back and forth in the extra five minutes but two banked in 3-pointers proved to be the difference for the Mustangs.
Solano committed 28 turnovers in the contest and shot just 26 percent from the field.
“It’s amazing that we were able to stay in the game with that many turnovers and that many missed shots,” said Solano coach Matt Borchert.
Destinee Sinegal, honored on Sophomore Night prior to the game with fellow classmates Ivy Jones, Carmen Belser, Jessica Woods and Amber Takeda, scored 23 points and added 10 rebounds and five steals. Ivy added 17 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Falcons while Shannon Rankin chipped in 7 points and 12 rebounds.
