Ruby Leon came off the bench to score 16 points as the Solano Community College women’s basketball team upended Laney 82-77 on Wednesday.
Solano and Laney entered the game unbeaten in conference play and were looking to get the upper hand on the conference’s automatic playoff spot. With the win, the Falcons now have sole possession of first place in the Bay Valley Conference with three games remaining.
Ruby hit the floor just minutes into the game and immediately caught fire. She was 6 of 10 from the field and had three rebounds. Tara Cooley also scored 16 points and added 5 rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Solano led 45-33 at the half and built the lead to 14 in the second half. Laney got as close as four points late in the game but clutch free throw shooting by the Falcons allowed them to hold on for the victory.
Ivy Jones chipped in 14 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals for Solano while Shannon Rankin added 14 points and seven rebounds. Destinee Sinegal had 12 points, three rebounds and four assists.
Solano next travels to take on Napa Valley College in Napa on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
