Destinee Sinegal scored 16 points and the Solano women’s basketball team recovered from an early deficit to post a 68-42 win over College of Marin on Wednesday, handing Coach Matt Borchert his 207th career victory at Solano. Borchert is now tied with SCC Hall of Fame coach Kim (Mitchell) Gervasoni for the most wins all-time.
After the game, the Falcons celebrated with Coach Matt on the sideline as the Solano athletic family recognized his achievement. Coach Matt, however, was humble.
“It will be a great accomplishment when the record is broken,” he said. “It’s a testament to what the players have done in the last 10 1/2 years that I have been with this program. That we have been able to continue the legacy and winning tradition that Kim started so long ago is wonderful.”
Destinee added three rebounds and two steals for the Falcons, who fell behind 6-0. Tara Cooley knocked down a pair of 3-pointers during an 8-1 Solano run which allowed them to take the lead for good. The game quickly got out of hand and Solano led by double digits at the break. Solano led by as many as 29 in the second half.
Ivy Jones, who is third in the state among guards in assists per game, added 11 points, six rebounds, seven assists and three steals. Jessica Woods chipped in 10 points, five rebounds and four steals.
Solano is now 11-9 overall and 6-0 in conference. The Falcons travel to take on rival Contra Costa College on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
