Ivy Jones scored 11 points, dished out 13 assists and added 10 steals to lead the Solano Community College women’s basketball team to a 79-58 win over Mendocino on Friday night.
It was the first triple double for Ivy, a sophomore point guard. Jones tied the school record for assists in a game and now sits alongside LaStar Brown, who set the record in 2001-02.
Solano (9-9, 4-0 BVC) is riding its longest win streak of the season and hit the .500 mark for the first time this year. Coach Matt Borchert is now just three wins away from becoming the all-time winningest coach in program history.
It wasn’t one of Solano’s better performances of the season as the Falcons shot just 32 percent from the field and committed several fouls on Mendocino players on defense.
The Golden Eagles hung around at the beginning of the game before Solano broke the game open late in the second half to take a 35-20 lead.
Mendocino had a lot of fight left in them eventually cutting Solano’s lead to single digits in the second half. The Falcons finally put the game away for good in the final five minutes of the contest.
Destinee Sinegal led Solano with 20 points while Ruby Leon added 17. Leon was a huge spark off the bench for Solano in the first half. Shannon Rankin had nine points and 16 rebounds while Jessica Woods chipped in eight points and 14 rebounds.
Ivy added six rebounds to her stat line.
Solano travels to take on Los Medanos on Wednesday, Jan. 19 in a 5:30 p.m. tip off. The winner will take sole possession of first place in conference.
