The Solano women’s basketball team set two new program records en route to a 106-45 win over Merritt College in Oakland on Wednesday night.
Solano connected on 47 field goals, topping the previous mark of 44 (vs. Delta in 94-95 and vs. Gavilan in 98-99). The Falcons also dished out 33 assists, breaking the previous record of 32 set just last year vs. Mendocino.
The 61-point victory is the largest margin of victory by a Solano team in the last 11 years.
“The team came ready to play tonight and they didn’t let up,” said Solano coach Matt Borchert. “Fortunately, our shots were going in, but we also got a lot of high-percentage shots.”
Leading the way for the Falcons was Carmen Belser, who scored her second-straight double double with 22 points and 15 rebounds. Jessica Woods added 19 points, five rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots while Tara Cooley had 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists. The freshman guard went 4-for-4 from the 3-point line.
Zuri Collins added 12 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots while Ruby Leon and Ivy Jones each had 11 points. Ivy also tallied nine assists and five steals.
Solano improved to 8-9 overall and 3-0 in BVC. The team will look to reach the .500 mark on Friday when it hosts Mendocino at 5:30 p.m.
