Solano (5-7) recorded its first win streak of the season after downing Cosumnes River College before Christmas. The Falcons take on Ohlone College on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the tournament’s semifinals.
Carmen Belser came off the bench and contributed 12 points and six rebounds while Shannon Rankin added 10 points, 6 rebounds and three assists.
Solano was impressive in building a 48-33 halftime lead. The Falcons were able to break Mission’s press and score easy baskets in transition. The team also shot the ball extremely well in the halfcourt offense, led by Destinee.
Solano extended the lead to 16 on a Ruby Leon 3-pointer early in the second half. But Mission didn’t go away and threw several presses at the Falcons to cause turnovers and create easy baskets for themselves.
Solano never allowed the Saints to get closer than five the rest of the way as it held on for the thrilling opening-round victory.
