The Solano women’s basketball team lost its first two games at the Tom Gilcrest Invitational at College of Sequoias. The Falcons look ahead to their own Solano Showdown and defending their 2009 Showdown title.
In the COS opener against Cerritos, Destinee Sinegal had a double-double with 29 points and 11 rebounds. She added two assists and two steals and shot 11 of 20 from the field. Solano fell to Cerritos 79-78 in what Solano coach Matt Borchert called “the game of the day.”
The crowd in attendance was into the game and cheering both teams at every possession. Coach Matt said the crowd even gave the teams a standing ovation for their efforts.
“I was really happy with the way we played,” said Borchert, whose team led by nine at halftime and by double digits in the second half. “We just have to learn to finish games.”
Ivy Jones scored 16 points against Cerritos and added six rebounds and six assists. Ruby Leon tallied 11 points, two rebounds, two steals and an assist for the Falcons.
Against a tough Fresno team, which Solano was facing for the second time in a month, Solano fell 106-78. The Falcons gave up the most points in program history – a record that was broken by Fresno in the teams’ first meeting earlier this season.
Ruby Leon led the way with 19 points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal. The freshman guard has come on as of late for the Falcons. Ivy Jones had 15 points and six assists while Shannon Rankin poured in 15 points and nine rebounds. The freshman forward shot 7 of 9 from the field.
Solano takes the court on Friday night at 8 p.m. to open the Solano Showdown. Make sure to come out and support the Falcons in their 2010 home opener!
