Ivy Jones scored 21 points to lead the Solano women’s basketball team to an 86-72 win over San Jose City College on Saturday night in San Jose.
Ivy added five assists and four steals for the Falcons, who improved to 2-3 with the victory. Solano built a 12-point lead in the second half behind solid defensive play but San Jose creeped back into the game with stellar 3-point shooting. The Jaguars cut Solano’s lead to 2, but that was the closest they got. Solano was clutch from the free throw line down the stretch.
Sophomore Carmen Belser had one of her best games in a Solano uniform. The forward finished with 12 points, six rebounds and five assists. Destinee Sinegal had 12 points, four rebounds and five steals. Fellow sophomore Jessica Woods added 11 points, seven rebounds, two blocked shots and four steals before fouling out.
Freshman Shannon Rankin had 11 points, three rebounds and five steals for Solano.
The Falcons open the Tom Gilcrest Invitational at College of Sequoias in Visalia on Thursday against Cerritos at 8 p.m.
