The Solano women's basketball team celebrated its third straight Bay Valley Conference championship.

The Solano Community College women’s basketball team celebrated another championship season last Sunday with the end-of-season banquet which took place at the Hilton Garden Inn in Fairfield.

The Falcons were surrounded by family, friends, support staff, school administration and trustees who welcomed the team into the ballroom with a standing ovation.

There were plenty of awards given out this season – all-conference, academic all-conference, Falcon Award for academic excellence and the team’s Player of the Year. Every player was given her Bay Valley Conference champions t-shirt, which this year signified the team winning the title three straight years.

Coach Matt Borchert recognized the support staff as well.

“I have worked at a lot of colleges and the support our program receives is by far the best I have ever known,” he said. “Without you, we wouldn’t be celebrating tonight.”

The team’s championship banner served as a backdrop on the night and the highlight film debuted to rave reviews.

Bree Domingo proudly shows off her certificate for winning the 2010 Falcon Award.

Congratulations to sophomore point guard Bree Domingo who was honored as the Player of the Year, which is an honor voted on by the players. Bree also took home the Falcon Award for her hard work in classroom.

“This was the closest race for the Falcon Award that I have had in my 10 years at Solano,” said Coach Matt. “This group did great things in the classroom and I am extremely proud of that.”

The banquet was the final one for assistant coaches George Molina, who served under Coach Matt for seven years, and Kate Shipp, was a player for Coach Matt before becoming an assistant this year. Their hard work and dedication to the program will be missed and was greatly appreciated!

Allie Davison set to attend Waldorf College

Allie Davison listens as Coach Matt Borchert talks about her accomplishments while at Solano. Allie will attend Waldorf College in Iowa in the fall.

Solano sophomore Allie Davison signed a letter-of-intent to continue her academic and athletic careers at Waldorf College in Iowa.

Allie signed the letter in front of family, friends, teammates and support staff in Solano’s Hall of Fame lobby.

“Waldorf is a great fit for Allie,” said Solano coach Matt Borchert. “The basketball program has a long history of academic and athletic success and Allie is going to be able to step in and play a big part in continuing that success.”

Allie was Solano’s Falcon Award winner as a freshman and was an academic All-Bay Valley Conference selection this past season.

“Allie was a huge key to our success on the court this year,” said Coach Matt. “She played some key minutes off the bench for us and was a spark plug that got us going in many games.”

Good Luck to Allie as she continues her playing career!
