Solano falls to Santa Rosa in NorCal Regional Final

The Solano women’s basketball team’s season came to an end on Saturday night with a 70-60 loss to Santa Rosa Junior College in the Northern California Regional Final.

Crystal Lee scored 14 points and added nine rebounds to lead the Falcons (24-6).

Solano burst out of the gate early and the lead changed hands many times in the first half. Solano led 26-23 with 4:30 left to go in the first half but Santa Rosa went on a 15-4 run to close out the half and then scored the first basket of the second half to take a 38-30 lead.

The Falcons cut the lead to three midway through the second half, but the Bear Cubs were just too big and too tough down the stretch.

Santa Rosa outscored Solano on second-chance points 16-6 and won the rebounding battle, 57-39.

“We knew going into this game that their size was going to give us a problem,” said Solano coach Matt Borchert. “I thought we played hard until the very end and the girls left everything on the court.”

Bree Domingo scored nine points and added five rebounds, two assists and two steals while Ivy Jones had eight points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal.

Ashley Daniels chipped in seven points, three rebounds and two steals.

Solano finishes one of the best seasons in the last ten years with a 24-6 mark. The Falcons captured their third straight conference title and broke several school records including season scoring average, season free throw percentage and most assists in a game.

“This team has a lot to be proud of,” said Coach Matt. “There were a lot more highs during the season than lows. We can’t look at this one loss and get down. We are excited about next year and seeing what 2010-11 brings for Solano women’s basketball.”
