Second-half run lifts Solano past Mendocino

The Solano women’s basketball team bounced back from its first defeat in 15 games to post a 70-57 win over Mendocino on Friday in Bay Valley Conference action at Solano Gym.

Veronica Morris led Solano with 17 points and added three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Soroya Blunt had 13 points and seven rebounds while Ashley Daniels contributed 10 points, five rebounds, an assist and a two steals.

“We were still a little hungover from the Laney loss on Wednesday but we recovered a little better in the second half and were able to pull away,” said Solano coach Matt Borchert. “We came out of this week 2-1 and that’s huge. We are still in first place in conference so we have to get down to work and keep playing hard.”

Jessica Woods had nine points, six rebounds, two assists and three steals for the Falcons, who improved to 18-5 and 10-1 in BVC.  Solano shot 40 percent from the field in the game.

Solano, ranked No. 3 in Northern California and No. 16 in the state, takes on Merritt in Oakland on Wednesday.
