Bree Domingo came one assist shy of the school record, dishing out 12 assists to lead the Solano women’s basketball team to a crucial 75-70 win over Contra Costa College on Monday in San Pablo.
The record of 13 assists is still safely in the hands of LaStar Brown, who set the mark during her sophomore season (2001-02). Solano came one assist shy of breaking the team record of 31 set in the 1998-99 season.
Solano won its 15th straight game and is one win away from tying the school record for consecutive wins. The 1996-97 team won 16 straight en route to reaching the State Final Four. This year’s Falcons have also won 23 consecutive Bay Valley Conference games, dating back to last season.
Veronica Morris led Solano with 20 points and added seven rebounds, four assists, three blocks and two steals. Solano (17-4, 9-0) led by as many as nine points before Contra Costa cut the lead to two late in the game. The Comets were forced to foul, but had not yet gotten in the bonus, so time kept ticking off the clock without CCC able to get the ball back.
Soroya Blunt had 12 points and eight rebounds while Crystal Lee had 10 points and seven rebounds. Ashley Daniels added seven points, three rebounds, two assists and seven steals.
“This was a great win,” said Solano coach Matt Borchert. “It was a great college basketball game and, as always, playing at Contra Costa provides a great atmosphere. We have a long way to go still, but this got a big week off to a great start for us.”
The Falcons host Laney on Wednesday before hosting Mendocino on Friday. Both games start at 5:30 p.m.
