Second-half run leads Solano to tenth straight victory

Sophomore guard Goli Tavassoli led Solano to its 10th straight victory Friday night.

The Solano women’s basketball team hit 5 straight 3-pointers during a stretch in the second half to pull away from Merritt College and cruise to a 91-51 win in Bay Valley Conference action on Friday.

The win was the Falcons’ 10th straight and helped them improve to 12-4 overall and 4-0 in BVC. Solano, which is ranked No. 6 in the North, has also won 18 straight BVC games dating back to last season.

Goli Tavassoli led Solano with 15 points while Ivy Jones added 13, Crystal Lee had 12 and Jessica Woods scored 10. Soroya Blunt grabbed a season-high 11 rebounds while Bree Domingo had five assists.

“We stepped up our defense in the second half and then our offense really sparked things as well,” said Coach Matt Borchert. “It was nice that everyone was able to contribute to the victory.”

All but one player scored in the win, but that player, Carmen Belser, provided some solid minutes for the Falcons. The freshman center grabbed four rebounds and had an assist and a steal.

The Falcons travel to Napa Valley on Monday.
