The Falcons brushed off some holiday rust to defeat South power Cypress on Monday night 62-50 to open the Mike Gervasoni Memorial Classic in Cupertino.
The win was Solano’s sixth in a row. The team advances to play either De Anza or Porterville on Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the tournament’s semifinals.
Ashley Daniels led Solano with 14 points. She added five rebounds three steals. Veronica Morris contributed 12 points and four rebounds.
Goli Tavassoli, who hit three clutch 3-pointers in the final minutes of the game, finished with 11 points.
Coach Matt Borchert was happy with the way his team finished the game.
“We only had four turnovers in the second half and hit 70 percent from the free throw line,” he said. “We are still shaking off some post-Christmas stuff but we beat a good team tonight.”
Crystal Lee commanded the boards and had nine rebounds while Ivy Jones had five assists for SCC (8-4).
