Crystal Lee scored 17 points, including some crucial baskets down the stretch, to lead the Solano women’s basketball team to a 66-58 win over Contra Costa College on Tuesday night.
The Falcons improved to 7-4 overall and 2-0 in BVC play and sit atop the league standings.
Crystal added nine rebounds, one blocked shot and one assist while shooting 8 of 14 from the field. Soroya Blunt had 12 points and nine rebounds and Veronica Morris had 10 points, four rebounds, four assists and a block.
Ashley Daniels had another stellar game with 10 points, five rebounds, four assists, three blocks and three steals.
Point guard Bree Domingohad four points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Solano led 28-25 at halftime and the second half was a dogfight to say the least. Contra Costa tied the game at 39 midway through the second half but Solano went on a 14-4 run to take a 10-point lead with 6:19 to go in the game.
The Comets weren’t ready to go away though and cut the lead to five with four minutes remaining, 57-52. The Falcons were able to put the game away thanks to clutch free throws and field goals.
“This is a great win for the team,” said Coach Matt Borchert. “We have a few days off now for the holidays and this gives us some momentum heading into our next game.”
Solano will face off with South power Cypress to open the Mike Gervasoni Memorial Classic in Cupertino on Monday, Dec. 28. The game will be played at Monte Vista High in Cupertino at 6 p.m.
