The Solano women’s basketball team faced some tough competition at the Tom Gilcrest Invitational Dec. 3-5 at College of Sequoias in Visalia. The tournament, one of the most prestigious in California, features 16 teams – eight from the north and eight from the south – and is played over four days.
Solano suffered a 66-41 loss at the hands of Mt. San Antonio College, which has won four state championships, in the opening round on Thursday.
The Falcons recovered to post a 76-74 win over Foothill on Friday. The game was the team’s first against a team from the North so far this year. Solano actually held a 20-point lead early in the second half and had to hold off a feisty Foothill team in the end.
But on Saturday, Santa Barbara got the best of Solano, coming away with a 70-61 victory.
Sophomores Crystal Lee and Veronica Morris each averaged 9.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per game during the three games while sophomore Ashley Daniels scored 21 points and had 11 rebounds in the three games.
The Falcons will play their first home game of the season on Dec. 11 when they open the Solano Showdown against Diablo Valley College at 8 p.m.
