We came together last night one last time to celebrate our fantastic championship season. Our annual end-of-the-season banquet was held at the Hilton Garden Inn in Fairfield where we got to see one another again, share great memories, eat good food and honor each player for helping make this another championship season for Solano women’s basketball.
The night was also a little sad as we had to say goodbye to our third-year assistant coach Kim Nunley. Kim will be moving on to pursue her dream of screenwriting. We are hoping to see her win an Academy Award in the not-too-distant future and wish her all the luck in the world. She’s been a great asset to this program as both a player and a coach and she will be missed and hard to replace.
We honored our three sophomores – Leilanie Lewis, Theresa Keith and Jana Jenkins – who leave the program with the best Bay Valley Conference winning percentage in SCC women’s basketball history.
They have all made contributions to this program in every way imaginable and we wish them luck as they will all move on to a four-year school to play basketball and continue toward a bachelor’s degree.
We honored our three all-BVC selections, Bree Domingo, Leilanie Lewis and Soroya Blunt and the all-BVC academic selections – Theresa Keith and Leilanie Lewis.
Freshman Allie Davison was the recipient of the Falcon Award, given to the player with the highest GPA from the academic year. Allie had a 3.52.
One of the highlights of the night was the presentation of the Player of the Year award. It’s an award voted on by members of the team at the end of the season. They take into consideration a variety of criteria – academics, attitude, coachability, legitimate stats, citizenship, great teammate, leadership, etc.
Freshman Soroya Blunt was this year’s winner and was a little surprised upon hearing her name announced by Coach Matt.
The night came to a close with the much anticipated viewing of the highlight film which was put together by Coach Kim and her wife, April. It featured clips from the season, interviews with the players and fun moments throughout the year. If you haven’t seen it, make sure to ask Coach Matt or one of the players if you can view the 20-minute film.
Thanks to all those who supported our program this season, we share this championship banner with you!
