Last Monday, the 6th, I got to introduce two of my former teammates as they were inducted into the Solano College Hall of Fame. While I was honored to be a part of their night, I’m not going to lie, I was nervous!
Along with five other former Falcon athletes, Erica Morrow and Sara Gordon (shown with her siblings here on the right) were voted by the Solano College Hall of Fame committee to be a part of this year’s inductees. The ceremony was at the Hilton Garden Inn in Fairfield. We had drinks (which helped my nerves) and dinner, and then honored each of the seven elite athletes who have been a part of our athletic program’s impressive history.
Erica Morrow played from 1998-2000 under Coach Kim Gervasoni. In her two years, she was a two-time All Bay Valley Conference player (98-99. 99-00), was All Northern California (99-00), is currently the 10th all time leading scorer for a single season (495 points) and 8th all time leading scorer for a career (834). Her sophomore year, she led her team to win the Bay Valley Conference title, in which she hit the shot on the buzzer against Santa Rosa to clinch, and helped her squad move all the way to the Elite Eight.
Sara Gordon played from 1997-1999, also under Coach Kim Gervasoni. She was chosen All Bay Valley Conference and All Northern California her sophomore year (98-99) and held the program’s best FG% for a single season (51.1%) until it was broken last season by Angela Franklin. Sara helped her team win the Bay Valley Conference title her freshman season.
In all, the event went really well, and I survived through the nerves. I did refer to Erica as a “beast,” which some gave me a hard time about. It’s a basketball term people! A compliment! Luckily Erica took it the way that I meant it (obviously referring to her dominance on the court and not her girth size), and it was all good.
