Official roster…

The official roster is now up on our website. Learn about each of the players here.

This week…

October 27, 2008

It seems like since the beginning of the semester, we’ve been unable to get everyone at practice for a full week straight.  Ilness, miscommunication, and family issues seem to be popping up nonstop.  As you can imagine, it has been difficult to really get into a flow.

Combine that with the ongoing construction on our facilities, and this semester has been filled with craziness and confusion.  Maybe this week we can finally get into a groove and have everybody here every single day.

Last Friday we had a really good practice.  I mean, really good.  The squad’s starting to really understand how to play pressure defense.  They get how important it is that with our size limitations, that we get into people’s shorts and make them so enamorated with the pressure that they can’t even think about their 6 foot post player being guarded by our 5’5 player.  They’re denying hard and being more aggressive.  We still need to get better on our defensive rebounding, as again our lack of height is going to put us at a disadvantage.

Note:  If you “adopted” one of our players as part of our fundraising efforts, thank you!  We’re working on getting all of the items (t-shirts, autographed pics, etc…) to you.

October 21, 2008

Last weekend, we joined the Men’s program in hosting our first annual Poker Night.  Players paid $80 for $3,000 in chips to play for four hours, a tri-tip dinner, two drinks, and a chance to win raffle prizes.  It was probably the easiest fundraising event ever, as you can see how hard Allie and Jana had to work.

We’re trying to finish up our fundraising ventures so we can stay focused on games when the season starts.  I’ll be keeping you posted on the upcoming online auction where we’ll have sporting goods, spa treatments, and other fun items to bid on.

On a separate note, the girls are excited because we should be getting all of our gear on Wednesday.  Shoes, bags, sweats, uniforms, etc…

A lot has happened in the last week…

October 16, 2008

Official practice started yesterday.  The girls were in their official practice gear and looked really sharp.

Construction on our facility continues.  They were doing a lot of work on the offices yesterday.

The roster has changed.  We’ve lost two players in the last week.

Everyone on the roster has now completed the Chapman Drill successfully.  They’ve all earned their uniform!

Coach Matt is out of town with meetings, so the assistant coaching staff is running practice.  This can sometimes be an adventure, but so far, things have gone smooth.

The poker tournament is this Saturday.  There are still a couple tickets available for those interested.  The team will be working it; serving drinks and dinner and miscellaneous set-up and clean-up duties.
